Admission Open House
Sunday, November 3, 2019
Welcoming parents who love Catherine Cook and would like to share their enthusiasm with prospective parents are needed to greet, answer questions, and share their experiences.
Admission Play Dates
From December through February, the Office of Admission hosts play dates for prospective Early Childhood students. Welcoming parents who love Catherine Cook and would like to share their positive and enthusiastic experiences with prospective parents are invited to assist in hosting these events. Volunteers greet the families as they arrive and socialize with the prospective parents while their children visit the classroom. Volunteers may sign up for a single play date or for multiple dates. A schedule will be sent to volunteers so they may choose dates and times that work with their schedules.
Chairs: Shannon Abloh, Emily Bennett, Susan Flosi, and Mia Sossei
The Ambassador Program helps new families integrate into the Catherine Cook community by pairing them with established families. These “Ambassador Families” welcome new families to the school, introduce them to other families, plan social outings with them, and answer any questions they might have. Ambassadors engage new families during the summer months before the school year begins. They participate in various events scheduled by the Office of Admission, including a breakfast, play dates, and the Ambassador Cocktail Party. Those interested in becoming Ambassadors for the next school year will be matched with incoming families in spring 2020 and will maintain contact through the 2020-2021 school year.
Saturday, March 14, 2020
Chairs: Mia Sossei, Heidi Suprenant, Kelly Waters
The 22nd Annual Catherine Cook Gala brings the entire Catherine Cook community together to support the school by raising funds for the annual operating budget. The event includes dinner, live and silent auctions, a raffle, and casino games. Many volunteers are needed in order to put on an event of this magnitude. Volunteers can play small or large roles, depending on their time and interests. If you have any questions specifically about the Annual Gala, please contact the Office of Advancement at 312.266.3381 ext. 2174.
Chairs: Emily Meyer, Christine Osborn, and Kelly Waters
This committee primarily supports the art department and our school nurse by providing volunteers for the main stairwell art installation, the art fair, rotating the art on display in the Greenberg Gallery, uploading student art to Artsonia.com, and the student hearing and vision testing. Any ad hoc volunteer requests for miscellaneous events go through this committee as well.
Back to School Celebration
Friday, September 13, 2019
Chairs: Ilana Elsworth, Alyssa Johnson, Emily Meyer, Molly Watkins
This annual evening event celebrates the beginning of the new school year. Parents, faculty, and staff gather in the Mark Droegemueller Gymnasium to socialize over hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. Volunteers assist with setup, cleanup, and managing the welcome table.
Book Fair and Book Share
Chairs:Melissa Filkin, Ellen Kellogg, Christine Melendes
This committee assists the librarians with the annual Book Fair. This year the Book Fair will be held on November 22 and during the Parent-Teacher Conferences on November 25 and 26. The committee also will coordinate a Book Share in May for students to give and get used books. Volunteers will help with the set-up, organization of books during the events, and take down.
Chair: Carrie Cochran, Carrie Goodreau, Janeen Hayward
The school counselors work with the co-chairs to coordinate assistance to Catherine Cook families during transitional times (i.e. new baby, a major illness, or death in the family). The co-chairs will reach out to volunteers to help organize play dates, rides to and from school, meals, or other types of outreach to support those members of the Catherine Cook community who need the assistance.
Faculty and Staff Snacks
Chairs: Karen Dahlquist, Karen Focht, and Lauren Worley
This committee coordinates monthly snacks on the first Thursday of every month for the faculty and staff to show our appreciation for their hard work. Volunteers purchase and deliver food before school on designated days and can seek reimbursement for their expenses. This is a good volunteer opportunity for those parents who wish to give back to the community, but do not have a lot of spare time during the school day.
Harvest & Halloween Celebration (Thursday, October 31)
Co-Chairs: Jody Boutell, Brandy Kemp, Julia Ross, Megan Schrecengost, Virginia Uriostegui
In late October, the Harvest and Halloween Committee transforms Catherine Cook to celebrate Halloween and the fall harvest. Volunteers help decorate the school in mid-October and take down decorations in mid-November. They also coordinate and guide the Halloween parade around Cobbler Square.
Parent Education Program
Chairs: Kira Elert, Kim Kort, and Daisie Siska
The Parent Education Committee provides resources and events that help our community expand their knowledge about parenting, child development, and ethical literacy in a manner that is grounded in the mission/foundation of Catherine Cook.
School’s Out Extravaganza (Sunday, May 31)
Chairs: Jennifer Buckley, Kat Cordell, Emily Hood, Kate Lattner, and Bonnie Stanfield
The School’s Out Extravaganza Committee organizes a fun, family event for current and incoming families on the Sunday before the last week of school. Volunteers assist with setup, cleanup, and registration on the day of the event.
Spirit and Social Committee
