Borrowing Policy

Library materials are to be checked out at the circulation desk by the librarian. Students from Senior Kindergarten through 8th Grade may check out books during class visits or on their own. Each student is assigned a number that is used for checking out books, which is kept in a binder at the circulation desk by the librarian. It is important that all items taken from the library be properly checked out before they are removed. Students are responsible for all materials checked out under their names.

Senior Kindergarten

  • Must keep their books in their classrooms
  • May borrow one book at a time
  • Normal loan period is one week.

Grades 1- 4

Grade 5 - 8

  • Maximum: Three books at a time
  • Normal loan period is 17 days.

Exceptions to the Borrowing Policy are made when students are doing research, reading novel units, or working on individual reading incentives.

Renewal of Materials

Often, students need books longer than 17 days due to the length of a book, if they are using materials for research, or reading for a novel unit in class. Students may renew regular library books for an additional 17 days. Please bring the book to the circulation desk for renewal.

Overdue Materials and Fines

We do not charge fines for overdue books. If students have overdue materials, they will not be allowed to check out anything until the item is returned.

Lost or Damaged Materials

It is important that students take care of their books. All lost or damaged books belonging to the library must be paid for by the parents or guardians of the student responsible for the loss or damage. Families will be charged the cost of replacing these items.
