Summer DEI/SEL Family Book Club
This summer the Library and our DEI/SEL teams are partnering together to invite you to participate in the Summer DEI/SEL Family Book Club!
This asynchronous Book Club is open to readers and families across all grade levels. Every reader has a choice in which book(s) to read. Family members are encouraged to engage in conversations about the books which center diversity, equity, and inclusion themes as well as social-emotional learning by reflecting upon a short series of questions about the book(s) as will be provided in an interactive Pear Deck.
Click here for more information about the Summer DEI/SEL Family Book Club, including book titles and how to participate!
Chicago Public Library Summer Learning Challenge 2021
Students can join the Summer Learning Challenge 2021 later this summer. CPL will offer virtual events, including STEAM activities, music performances and story times, as well as grab-and-go activity kits and new books to keep kids' brains active.
Looking for Some Reading Recommendations?
From the Catherine Cook Librarians:
From some of your librarians’ favorite publications:
- Horn Book 2021 Summer Reading Recommendations
- We Are Kid Lit Collective 2021 Summer Reading List
- School Library Journal Summer Reading 2021
Unlike in years past, there is no Reading Log requirement for Middle School students this summer. Instead, your librarians will send every incoming MS student a Summer Reading Survey at the end of the summer to learn more about what your student has read this summer. This information will be shared with Humanities teachers.
We hope to see our Middle School students participate in the DEI/SEL Family Book Club!
