Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Hero

We define diversity as the range of differences and similarities between social identifiers, including, but not limited to: ability (cognitive, emotional, physical), age, ethnicity, gender identity, language, nationality, race, religion, sexual identity, and socio-economic status.  Additionally, each community member holds values, experiences, and roles within and beyond the school community that are integral to their identity.  Honoring and valuing this diversity with equitable and inclusive practices and policies strengthens our school community.

An inclusive school reflects and enriches the community in which it is situated. We are committed to strengthening and growing this commitment through a variety of initiatives, including, but not limited to: centering equity in hiring practices; offering financial assistance and raising the community’s awareness about the importance of an economically diverse community; supporting a diverse population through programming and practices; and educating our community about and providing resources for engaging with a diverse population which centers equity and inclusion, especially for marginalized populations most impacted by inequitable social systems. Catherine Cook lives its values by being a school that continually and deliberately reflects upon its programs through a DEI and social-emotional learning (SEL) lens.

Central to Catherine Cook School’s approach to creating community is the understanding that when everyone sees and feels that they belong, that their experience and emotions are valued, and that their voice is heard, vibrant learning can be achieved.
