Arts
A 360° education
You see it as soon as you step through our doors at The Catherine Cook School: student art is everywhere -- paintings, sketches, ceramics, found-object sculpture, and exuberant creations that defy description! Walk through our halls and you'll hear students rehearsing for the spring musical, practicing public speaking, tuning up for band rehearsal, and admiring each other's work in the second-floor art gallery space.
The arts are never an add-on at Catherine Cook, but an integral part of our 360° approach to education. Dedicated specialist instructors develop student proficiency and self-expression in visual arts , music , and speech, deepening understanding of core curricular concepts. Learning about medieval history in the classroom is enriched by creating illuminated manuscripts in the art studio, while three-dimensional mask making enriches a second-grade unit on African cultures.
Co-curricular clubs and classes extend learning with exposure to playwriting, drama, improvisation, dance, and more. Middle School musicals and band spotlight budding talents and stage presence, and schoolwide assemblies are weekly opportunities to refine public-speaking and presentation skills. At Catherine Cook, the arts do not exist in isolation, but are a joyful and constant expression of shared cultures and community.
